Dishues: The Selfie

Summary
Standards of cleanliness differ from person to person. My level of clean could be your level of gross. My internal cleanliness watchdog might be less awake than yours. Making expectations of cleanliness clear is difficult because "clean" can mean a different image to everyone in your household. It's understandable that during the year the house isn't going to remain spotless much to the cleanliness watchdogs dismay! The selfie is a way to make clear what is expected of everyone by displaying what "clean" looks like so everyone can remember and compare whether or not the area is clean by the communities standards.

Instructions
Space
Your house kitchen area or the area you are wanting to use e.g. bathroom, common space.
Supplies
  • Camera
  • Change for color prints
  • Tape, sticky tack, thumb tacks
  • Selfie skills!
Funding
Can be personally funded or out of the community pocket.
Step by Step
  1. Find an agreeable standard of cleanliness for your kitchen and take a photo!
  2. Print the photo in blazing color
  3. Display the photo in that area
  4. Caption as you deem necessary
Outcome
This technique helps even out expectations of the community. If everyone knows what level of clean is acceptable it's easier to cater to less and more clean personalities. Those who are super clean will feel that it is a comfortable level of mess while those who a less clean will feel that the area is clean enough. Hopefully, neither side will feel the need to pressure, nag or become defensive. It can be understood that if you want it to be cleaner you can do so but the community expectation is the minimum level.
Adjustments
You could add extra photos to the wall if you want. You could have bad hair days, weird light days and make the selfie wall into something fun as well as something serious. As always incentives work a treat with residents.
